Final Critique Response

I was happy to see everyone in the class go out with a bang. I think a lot of us learned to work through and around a large amount of technical issues and I can definitely see the growth from the first project to where we ended up. We had such a great group of people and I'm so glad to have been around you guys! Each of you gives amazing advice and you're 80% of the reason I made an improvement in video art. I know we all have different majors but I hope we'll have a class or two in the future.

Completely in awe with us all. I honestly can say each installation had something very unique and special, that made it such a success. So much creativity and approach is seen in each one of our works, I am truly inspired by us all. Installations ARE ALWAYS stressful, but they are also the most fun in my opinion, and I enjoyed each one. The feedback I received definitely echoed my own thoughts, and I thank the class and Su for all of your Honesty throughout the semester.

Final Crit Response

Everyone's final projects were incredible. It was fun and quite an experience to see all the ways everyone went with their project--everyone's was completely different, exciting, and memorable, and all the pieces reflected the artist who worked on it. I love to see how the projects all are distinguishable from one another--I feel as though even if I werent aware of who made what, I could figure it out, and I'm glad to see this as a sign of how everyone evolved through the semester. The effort everyone put into their projects is obvious, and it really showed through during the critique. I'm thankful to have shared this class with everyone, and I'm so happy to see the ways through which everyone has excelled in the medium. While I feel my progress may not have been up to par with everyone's (I may be overly critical--I worked and worked on this project, so it's flaws are evident to me), I still feel as though I've definitely grown and become more comfortable with Time Based Media, and that this final project was the best example I have to show for that.

Thanks for everyone enjoyed my final project! I am really very grateful for all the help I had during this semester, each one helps me in a different way.
About the final projects, I think that everyone was very well, and the variety of the projects was so interested too. The project were different and the creativity was amazing!!!  Good job guys and good luck to everyone during finals week!!

Overall I really enjoyed the final critique! Everyone had a different idea, vision, and execution; it was awesome. I really enjoyed something out of each person's piece! I think my favorite was Isabella and Scarlett's work. With Isabells's I just enjoyed how vulnerable and intimate it was. With Scarlett I love how she explored the movement of these deceased creatures. Yes, everyone did a great job. I'm glad we could finish them all in one day because I enjoyed watching and participating in all of them. I think it would have been cool if we could have done one other project in this matter because it makes a huge difference on how the audience feels by the way you present your video. I believe this project was my favorite, I just enjoy installations in general. I'm very happy with the way my installation turned out. I was very worried about how I should present my video and then I had a lot of technical issues, but it all ended up working out. The size of the screen/projection was perfect and the whole dark space was nice. I wanted it to just be the video and the audience with little distractions and it all worked out. Su also helped me with many of my technical issues, thanks. This project was awesome. Going into this time-based media and video work was new to me. I've learned a lot and I hope to make many more projects using the skills and techniques that I've learned in the class. It's been a journey with this class and we all made it! Great work everyone! I think critique was okay. Overall I didn't enjoy this project. It did give us more freedom but I wish it didn't have to be fluxus inspired. I think everyone did okay. Everything just kind of had a "random" feel to it. Which I personally dislike, but that may be others people thing. I guess it's just harder when we have 100% creative control. I'd rather have a little guidance.

I think I may enjoy the final project more, yes, we have the same creative control but the whole "installation" part I'm just excited for :) I know how I want the audience to feel and I have a clear idea of where my video will go to create this.

Overall I think my feedback was understandable. If I redo this project I will use everyones feedback and use more of the clips with my friend "Beri," take out the bloopers, and simplify the titles.

The only thing I was confused about was when my bloopers were critiqued. I'll just take them out all together if I redo. Also, I'm not sure if I'll "clean" the space we used to shoot in. It was a dorm. It may have been distracting but it was the little ounce of the video that had a "everyday" life feel to it.

If we have time I may take Scarlett on her offer and use her if I redo the video :)

Overall I'm glad I changed my project from what I had initially. I didn't want to rely on people I didn't know for a response that I expected. I was happy with the outcome of my new idea.

I really enjoyed the last class critique and I think that everyone did very well! And I could see that many students changed their initial idea but I loved all experimental videos. I really think that it is the best project for our class.
And for my project, I enjoyed my classmates input and positive comments.

I feel, for this project, everyone did very well as a whole. Throughout the course of planning for this project, I know a lot of people started as unsure, worked warily, and often changed their overall concept and idea several times, but in the end everyone was able to stick to an idea that worked well for them, which I'm relieved for. Everyone's final concepts were well thought out, on the whole. As with every project, some people were more successful in their execution than others--personally I think there were many things I could have improved upon, although most are technical things, such as lengthier clips, more variety in shots, and a higher quality camera. But overall, I was happy enough with my final product.

I don't have too much to say other than critique went well!  It was rewarding to hear my classmate's positive input on the risks I took for the experiment video.  The ideation, creating, and presenting process for this project was something we all seemed to have fun with, which I feel showed through everyone's work.  I'm the geek that looks forward to critiques, because it's great to see everyone's approach to the project guidelines, and insightful to hear whether your intended message came across.  Based upon the feedback, it seems like people understood my message, which was really meaningful, because it is so easy to be polarized about the beauty issue, and make it feel overdone.

I loved all the different directions everyone took to assemble their videos. I think we were all pretty enthusiastic to talk about each others' process for this one and now that we have a better grasp of Final Cut Pro, have been getting a little fancy with the transitions and effects. The videos have begun to feel a lot more complete and polished altogether and there's a certain consistency with everyone's specific style that's showing through.
I really enjoyed Tara's choice of audio and how it was all stitched together. It looks like it took days or at least many many long hours of searching and editing to get it all arranged in such a thoughtful way as she did. Dreezy's was also pretty funny, although I think it would have been even better if she went with the dry humor of the friend with the crazy mug. I loved it! Next time, let me know, and I'll volunteer to complain about things on your videos! Madeleine, I'm still baffled by how you did the leggings. I'm so impressed with how much work everyone puts into their videos.

I'll be updating this post on Wednesday when I present. If you didn't hear, I went to add clips to my project on Movie Maker early this morning and some of the clips began to disappear, saying they were visiting. So after putting in an extra 2 hours to redo the entire video, it's finally posting to Vimeo to be shown next class! I can't wait to hear everyone's feedback and suggestions.

I enjoyed last class's critique, as always, and was very happy that everyone responded to my video the way they did. Everyone seems to have grown in how they compose their projects in order to evoke a particular response and I think everyone was spot on, including Dreezy, who I know had trouble with her footage. It still turned out great! That just goes to show how well we've learned to work around our problems.

In this critique I can see and understand the different ideas class. Each one has a particular art and a particular way to do it.

The last critique class was very useful and I could understand many steps to improve my project. One of these is to create the fight written in Portuguese so that video can be more convincing. I definitely will redo my project to my improvement.

I really enjoyed critique. Everyone's work is starting to grow. I also enjoyed how each person took a different route with this project. Overall I think my feedback was accurate. I wish I could have stuck with my original plan for my work but I still used what I had to go with my split screen and overlapping sounds. I may take the advise and show all the sounds overlapping in the beginning of the video. I'm still not sure because I'm going to go a different route when I redo my video so depending on exactly what I do will decide what effects I will use. I'm leaning toward using sounds that we all hear everyday but they flow differently when overlapped. I don't think I will attempt to record my family again, instead I will record my friends. With changing things so that it is not so personal it will help me be able to record my friends and some of the "college kid" sounds we make. It will also help the viewer be able to relate more to the sounds they hear.

I thoroughly enjoyed the critiques for the sound project. Seeing each of the pieces come to fruition is always something to look forward to, and especially this time around when we had to chose which 3 pieces were our favorites.
The fourth one is just around the corner, and I can't wait to see what is in store for the coming weeks.

I was quite please with this project's critique. I honestly felt that this critique went smoother than the others and that the advice I was given matched the points needed for the correction that I thought myself. For this project I definitely will redo because I feel there is room for improvement. But overall, I enjoyed this critique a lot.

I was thoroughly happy with the critique response. I really enjoyed everyone's perception of my project, and I was glad to know a lot of my thoughts and ideas were perceived quite like everyone else's. I'm glad of what was said about the words in my project- I also thought they were too much and not necessary to be placed in the project,  so it was a nice concurrence that everyone was able to understand the message behind the video. I'm a little anxious about the contest- not gonna lie.

I felt that the critique was more positive than I anticipated. For my project, I was not anticipating it to be well received, as I was particularly panicked about the quality of my audio (since, in the past, my projects have all suffered because of a lack in final quality, visually or audibly) and about the visual choice, but I was relieved to find that people responded positively to my piece and visual choice. I still feel as though my visual component is lacking (or, in my personal opinion, unnecessary), so I was not surprised when it was questioned. Overall, I think the critique went better than expected.

I was really excited to see how my video was received since it was so fun to create, and I am overall content with critique.  Everyone was really involved with the idea, which I loved.  Everyone's comments reflected the smaller details, and whether I agreed or disagreed, I appreciated this attention to detail.  Each sound was attempted multiple times in order to choose the one I felt most appropriate, so it was interesting to hear how others' experiences shaped how they felt about my choices, in both the sounds that were represented and not represented.  My sound choices aren't finalized, this study of sound with the violin can continue infinitely, and classmate's comments helped.  Critique made me realize how personalized the idea behind my project is; each person would execute the project differently, represent the sound differently, and I could redo this project in 10 years and it could sound completely different from gaining more musical knowledge.  Sound is really personal to people!  Everyone's comments were valuable, but because of everyone's unique relationship with sound, it was easier to digest or disagree with feedback.  I thought about the comment regarding how, without knowing all sounds came from one source, the viewer couldn't pinpoint every sound to the violin, and I don't mind that.  Whether the viewer goes into the video knowing the soundtrack is a single violin, or whether he doesn't discover until afterwards, there is an element of surprise either way, so I don't feel it drifts from my project's purpose, because this video isn't meant to be played in a context where it isn't accompanied with explanation.  While the goal isn't to confuse the viewers, I want to surprise them, which is why I felt just using the strings to imitate sounds was too predictable and limiting, since I don't want the viewer to automatically recognize the violin.  Based on some of the comments, it would be fun to further explore the abstract vs. literal rendering of sound.

Critique Response - Project 2

I feel as though our critique was fair. I'm glad that everyone liked our drawings, and I'm upset the real quality was lost on vimeo's website. The critique of the video quality was definitely fair, and I agree (though, our original video doesnt have such blurred images, and I wish we could have shown that.) I agree our video also ended rather abruptly, and if possible I would like to go back and make it flow better. Overall, I think all of the projects were very successful and I was happy to see the changes each group made from their original concept to their final piece.

I really enjoyed doing this project. I had never worked with stop-motion and it was a great challenge. Another challenge was also able to communicate with my group, each one is for a different place and it made me learn to work in groups.

I also really enjoyed all the videos submitted and the dedication that the groups had.
