The Art of Noises

A MUCH easier read than some of the past articles, The The Art of Noises by Luigi Russolo was really fascinating. The fact that it was a futurist manifesto immediately captured my attention. I love how passionate they are about the future, and how ready they are to delete/forget the past. In my opinion, Russolo basically stated his love for composer Pratella, and the ways in which Russolo believed he was the only man who could create such a new area of music. In the manifesto, Russolo believe music to be influenced by the industrial noises surrounding us. He document sounds journey to the then "today," from Ancient life, the Middle Ages, and the origins of man made sound. He finally concludes, like most futurists do, that technology and electronics will be the new substitute for musicians and composers everywhere. In a way, Russolo was right; he  predicted people would become bored with sound and music, regardless if its new- the 21st century has shown a wide array in which music has deviated from an acoustic natural style, to that filled with electronics, dub step and technology.
